Do I need pre-conception supplements

If you are trying to get pregnant, eating a healthy, varied diet will help you to get most of the vitamins and minerals that you need.

There are many branded pre-pregnancy vitamins available in pharmacies and supermarkets. These are not harmful but FOLIC ACID is the only extra supplement that everyone needs if you are trying to get pregnant and this is often cheaper if you buy this separately.

If you are vegan, talk to your doctor to make sure you are getting enough nutrients for a healthy pregnancy.

Please be aware that there are some health conditions where a higher dose of folic acid is recommended (if you have diabetes, are taking anti-epilepsy medications or have a history of neural tube defects like spina bifida)
